Also Volvo decided to enter the world of compact cars and SUVs, ready to “attack” the German competitors Audi, BMW and Mercedes. To do so, the Swedish brand has just unveiled the 40.1 and 40.2 Concept Cars, anticipating future series 40 models. These cars are based on the new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA – Compact Modular Architecture) Volvo, developed especially for compact models, to allow designers and engineers of the Scandinavian brand to express themselves without too many constraints. Technically, the new Volvo vehicles can also count on a purely electrically powered model, as well as on some variants of the plug-in hybrid powertrains Twin Engine; all this to achieve an ambitious goal: to sell 1 million cars “with the plug” in the world by 2025. Among the “new entries” in terms of engines, so here’s the renewed Volvo T5 Twin Engine unit, based on brand new 3-cylinder petrol engine, combined with the dual-clutch transmission with seven ratios and electric drive; thus the Swedish brand changes the current technical approach (based on the combination of Twin engine and all-wheel drive) in favor of a front-wheel drive system, more accessible for small cars. As Volvo tradition, there will be many security systems and driving aids, plus a full range of innovative connectivity services and a pioneering interior design, characterized by a typically Scandinavian flavor.
