On the occasion of the traditional Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza 2016, BMW presented a very special car, to honor one of the most important models in its history: here is, therefore, the BMW 2002 Hommage, a tribute to the legendary BMW 2002 Turbo.
According to Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, “Exactly 50 years ago with the Series 02 started the era of BMW’s success. This compact Coupe is one of the cars that made the brand what it is today. The top model range in 2002 was the first production car in Europe to be equipped with turbo technology, so as to make the Coupe model a true sports car. At the same time, the BMW 2002 turbo was the precursor to the technological development of engines for BMW. With the BMW 2002 Hommage we honor all those performance”.
Aesthetically, the BMW 2002 Hommage presents itself as low and aggressive, with compact proportions, short overhangs and a muzzle “shark nose” which gives it a strong character. There are also aerodynamic details such as the great spoiler in the front and tail and numerous air vents, while the carbon horizontal band is inspired by the chrome framing of the BMW 2002. To complete the picture, here is finally the domed wheel arches, 20″ alloy wheels with two-tone design and multi-beam and gold brake calipers embellished by the M logo.
